Hosts

Physical hosts are name using the NATO Phonetic Alphabet. They host one or more services that are reachable using semantic names. As an example, harbours.openseamap.org provides access to the harbor database and is (currently) hosted on charlie.openseamap.org.

As a general rule, code (such as on the map) should be using the semantic names, never the names of physical hosts. When administering hosts, the ssh connection should be made to the physical hostname (e.g. alpha.openseamap.org)

There often are other host names resolving to the same physical host. They should almost never be used for anything.
