The '''Online-Editor''' helps collecting nautical information. Having a special frontend you can easily select every important information from lists and graphics, or you can type them into input elements.
There will only be choices if they are needed. Before saving the information will be proofed to avoid senseless inputs.

You have to be logged in to work with the Online-Editor.

Therefore you need an OpenStreetMap-[[Online_Editor#Account|Account]]. This account is used by OpenSeaMap as well.

After logging in the first time your computer is able to remember yout account and your password. Anyway you should write down your login-data and take it to your trip to use the Editor from other computers (e.g. in an internet café).

When logging in look out for the <font color=red>correct region</font>. Then there will only be the attributes for navigation marks used in this region.

At the moment it's only possible to edit IALA-A.

== Account ==

When you don't have a OpenStreetMap-Account so far, click the "sign up"-link (("Benutzerkonto erstellen")). You have to enter you email-adress twice, but it won't be shown in public. It is for the authentification of your registration and for contacting you over a web-form.
Choose a username. It is possible that your choice is already in use, then you have to try a different one. Then you have to enter a password twice. It has to be minimum 8 characters, but it should not be used anywhere else, as it is transferred unencrypted.

By clicking "Register" you approve, that all your geo-data you commit to OpenStreetMap or OpenSeaMap is released worldwide under the [http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/deed.de CC-by-SA]-License.

Shortly after clicking the button, you will receive a confirmation email to your named email-adress. You have to finish your registration by clicking the link in the email.
Now you can use the Editor.

== Forgotten Password ==
When you forgot your password you can let it be sent to your email-adress. Therefore you have to visit [http://www.openstreetmap.org Openstreetmap.org], click on "login" and then [http://www.openstreetmap.org/user/forgot-password "password forgotten?"]. Type in the email-adress you used for registration and then you will receive an email with a link where you can choose a new password.

== History and fundamentals ==
OpenSeaMap was created in 2009 in response to a great need for freely-accessible seafaring maps. OpenSeaMap's goal is to add nautical and tourism information that would interest sailors OSM, and to present it in a pleasing way. This includes beacons, buoys and other seamarks, port information, repair shops, ship supplies and much more, but also shops, restaurants and places of interest. OpenSeaMap is part of [http://www.openstreetmap.org OpenStreetMap] and uses its database.

OpenSeaMap is an open Sea Map, and also open for future developments. The basemap is rendered using the OpenStreetMap-data. This map is extended with nautical data that is saved in the OSM-Database as well. OpenLayers is used to overlay additional nautical Information, which can be displayed in a popup by clicking on the map.

==Usage==
OpenSeaMap can be viewed online.

At the moment the areas [http://openseamap.org/map/?zoom=15&lat=54.18459&lon=12.08575&layers=B0T&lang=en "Warnemünde"] and [http://openseamap.org/map/?zoom=14&lat=54.3914&lon=10.19366&layers=B0T&lang=en Kieler Förde] are online & viewable.

In the future, you will be able to download the current map onto your laptop for your cruise.

We are still searching for a way to display water depth and a method of displaying the profile of the sea bed. We are also experimenting with AIS. Of course we will provide a list of ports and later also a port guide.

==Data model==
The data scheme applies to the international norm [http://www.iho.shom.fr/ECDIS/s57intro.htm IHO-S-57], as published by the IHO. This allows a simple exchange of data with other ECDIS-Applications. Because of the complexity of attributing seamarks, there will be (unlike the usual OSM procedure) a strict separation between database as backend and the frontend, to allow users to input data without knowing S-57. A graphical user interface will be provided in the form of three editors.

There are two possibilities to edit harbours and navigation marks:

== Online-Editor ==

By using the [[Online-Editor|Online-Editor]] harbours and navigation marks can be edited directly on a website. You can add, move, change or delete nodes. Therefore you don't need any cartographic experiences as there are dialogs leading through the editing process. There are lists and graphic elements which help describing the navigation marks. It's also possible to describe them by using input boxes.
The Online-Editor supports multiple languages.

As you don't have to install any software, you can edit the map from every computer having internet. It's good for fast and simple adding of navigation marks.

But the Online-Editor saves every navigation mark individually and the map will be loaded again. This takes much time. Furthermore it's only possible to edit nodes, so you cannot draw maps with it.

== JOSM with template "harbour" ==

JOSM is the most-used editor for OpenStreetMap and OpenSeaMap. It's quite functional, as you can edit and create every element with a high precision. There is a detailed description (where??). It has to be installed but you can edit maps offline. You load the data before editing and upload all at once after your work is finished.

At the moment it is not possible to add any navigation marks with JOSM. We're currently developing a plugin for this.

; Template "harbour"
This template makes drawing seaports, fishing harbours, marinas and anchorages ((Seehäfen, Fischerhäfen, Marinas und Ankerplätzen)) much easier. With less clicks every important information is collected. Even harbour equipment (crane, harbour master, collection point for waste oil, ...) is accessible by a template. Every other map element ist accessible by templates as well.

; Aerial photographs
For more detailed maps aerial photographs or infrared photographs can be included.

; Installation
For Windows there is a self-installing executable, which is ready for work with OpenStreetMap and OpenSeaMap.
